Ministry of Finance regulates insurance companies

In response to recent scandals, the Insurance Supervision and Administration Department (Ministry of Finance) collaborated with companies' representatives on April 17 in the afternoon.
At the meeting, the Insurance Supervision and Administration Department directed businesses to seriously publicize information about insurance operations, especially what customers need to pay attention to with each product.

This agency also appoints enterprises to control the information stated in the sales illustration and product introduction documents. "Enterprises must strictly handle insurance agents who arbitrarily change information in these documents, confuse customers, and expect insurance benefits to be inconsistent with reality," the unit said.
To assist participants to understand how death, major sickness, etc. will be compensated for, the table displays insurance benefits. Benefits like dividends and return value are often only examples.

The illustration is quite complicated but is an important document to understand the benefits, especially in terms of cash flow, but is often ignored or not consulted by customers. Some dishonest consulting agents take advantage of this ignorance by making promises like earning adequate principal and interest after 5–10 years.

Before recent cases, the Insurance Supervision and Administration Department advised firms to review insurance contracts to ensure they are appropriate for the client's financial situation and risk tolerance. 
Insurance companies should reassess agent training, especially for those who received it online.

For agents who violate, insurance companies are required to strengthen sanctions and strictly handle them. In this point, according to Mr. Ngo Trung Dung, Deputy General Secretary of the Insurance Association, businesses have never paid attention, especially with cross-selling channels through banks. "Many businesses have been reported to have made mistakes in the consulting stage at the bancassurance channel, but they have not been able to intervene," Dung said.
At this afternoon's meeting, the Insurance Supervision Administration also appointed the company to announce a hotline, with standing departments with competent officials to receive, answer, and definitively handle customers' inquiries. Enterprises need to settle insurance benefits in a timely manner to avoid delays.
With regard to applications reflecting violations of insurance agents under the jurisdiction of the proceedings and judgment enforcement agencies, the enterprise is obliged to transfer the information to the competent authorities.
