Singapore eager to welcome Vietnamese tourists back as COVID-19 is under control

Singapore is gearing up to welcome visitors from Vietnam with its latest SingapoReimagine reopening campaign to get visitors to reignite their passion for travel through fresh and innovative experiences in Singapore.

The city-state reopened for quarantine-free travel to all fully-vaccinated visitors from around the world on April 1.

The Vaccinated Travel Lanes (VTL) have been replaced by the new Vaccinated Travel Framework, which permits all fully vaccinated travellers and non-fully vaccinated children aged 12 and below to enter Singapore, without entry approvals or taking VTL transport, according to gov.sg.

Under this new travel paradigm on quarantine-free travel, visitors can take any flight to Singapore and are not required to undergo on-arrival testing.

According to the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), all fully vaccinated travelers, as well as children aged 12 and below, are able to enter Singapore with a pre-departure COVID-19 test within two days of their departure to Singapore.

“We are delighted to welcome back visitors from Vietnam,” said John Gregory Conceicao, Executive Director, Southeast Asia, Singapore Tourism Board.

“Vietnam has always been an important visitor market for Singapore, and we are excited for them to experience our new and reimagined offerings.

"SingapoReimagine is our non-stop effort to ignite the wanderlust of global travelers, particularly Vietnamese.

“Through SingapoReimagine and close collaboration with media and travel trade partners as well as the Vietnamese personalities in Vietnam and Singapore, we hope to entice more Vietnamese to rekindle their passion for travel in Singapore.”

Singapore’s SingapoReimagine campaign is an initiative to call on people to reimagine travel for the city-state by showcasing a different side of what the country has to offer, from exciting new attractions and novel dining concepts to wellness retreats and sustainable experiences.

An STB Travel Aspiration Survey conducted in partnership with Vietnamese newspaper VnExpress last year showed that many Vietnamese saw Singapore as an aspired travel destination post-pandemic that fulfills their needs.

Answering questions at a press conference in Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday to officially welcome Vietnamese tourists to Singapore, STB Vietnam Director Sherleen Seah said if tourists test positive for COVID-19 after they have entered Singapore, they are required to self-isolate at their hotel, which she called on tourists to consider an extra staycation.

Meanwhile, their health will be taken care of carefully by the hotel and the Singaporean Ministry of Health even if they develop mild or severe symptoms.

According to the director, travel insurance is not mandatory while visiting Singapore, however, tourists are advised to purchase the insurance for their trip so that it will cover the costs for their COVID-19 accommodations in Singapore.
