HO CHI MINH CITY – This year, the Tet flower market on boats along the Tau Hu canal is empty.

As a young photographer, Pham Nguyen Bao, 25 years old, living in Ho Chi Minh City did not miss the opportunity to take pictures of this year’s most special flower market, on January 28. Bao said that from about January 26, many small traders from the western provinces began to prepare for flowers to dock to start consuming.

On pedestrian bridges 6 and 7 along Tau Hu canal, in addition to the small highlights of the bougainvillea, there are also LED lights in the shape of peach and apricot flowers, contributing to the light and spring atmosphere at night.

This year, about 500 gardeners from the western provinces come to trade ornamental flowers at Binh Dong wharf area and the new point is to expand to Nguyen Van Cua street, where flower streets and miniature decoration are held.

On the morning of January 28, many tourists and photographers mostly came to visit and take pictures, but did not buy many flowers. This year, partly due to the influence of Covid-19, the Tet atmosphere at Binh Dong Wharf is less bustling, the number of boats is less than in previous years.

For the people of Ho Chi Minh City, the Binh Dong wharf spring flower market is a traditional destination with busy trading of ornamental flowers on the days leading up to Tet. Since 2012, Ho Chi Minh City has organized a large-scale spring flower festival and has maintained until now, a unique road and waterway tourism destination in particular in District 8.

The traditional flowers sold are yellow apricot, bougainvillea, marigold, chrysanthemum, ornamental kumquat, chicken color. A gardener in Ben Tre said that the price of yellow apricots ranges from 500,000 VND to several million VND per tree, some tens of millions of dong, 5-10% higher than last year due to the increase in fertilizer and transportation prices.

The boats are colorful with confetti, flower prices vary depending on the pot and create a beautiful bonsai shape.

People transport pots of confetti ashore. They consider boats as home, goods from boats in the canal are transported up to the wharf and sold on the spot, forming a unique market space.

People choose the pots of crested flowers they like to come and play during Tet. During the spring flower market, there are also other activities such as art performances and Don Ca Tai Tu on boats, photo contests “On the docks under the boat”, wrapping and displaying Tet cakes, and art flower arrangements. and five-fruit tray.

People hope to sell all flowers on the 29th of Tet and hand over the premises to the locality. Visitors to the spring flower market should pay attention to comply with regulations on Covid-19 prevention and control, wear masks, 5K in public places, maintain general hygiene and traffic order and safety.
