Dragon fruits on sale at a supermarket of Central Retail

NDO - Central Retail’s supermarket chains Big C, Tops Market and Go! have launched a programme to support farmers in southern provinces such as Binh Thuan and Long An, to sell their dragon fruit.

Currently, the majority of dragon fruit from these areas are exported to China through informal channels with high risk.

According to Nguyen Thi Bich Van, chief communications officer of Central Retail, the programme is designed for consumers nationwide, to help dragon fruit growers reduce their losses, due to the impacts of the pandemic.

In the first week of the programme, Central Retail’s supermarkets are expected to sell 20 tonnes of the fruit and will increase the quantity depending on demand.

Dragon fruit is now selling at 12,900 VND per kilogram in the southern region and 15,900 VND per kilogram in Hanoi.

The retail system also offers food and drinks made from dragon fruit, such as bread, sponge cakes, jelly and smoothies.
