40 out of 50 new Covid-19 infections found in HCMC

HCMC – The Ministry of Health reported 50 fresh Covid-19 cases by community transmission this morning, June 27, with HCMC accounting for the majority.

Specifically, HCMC reported 40 cases, the neighboring province of Long An recorded seven cases, and the northern province of Bac Giang had three cases. Of them, 43 cases were found in quarantine centers or areas under lockdown.

Up to now, the current fourth coronavirus wave, which began on April 27, has seen a total of 5,568 domestic infections in 48 provinces and cities nationwide.

Yesterday, 211,729 more people were vaccinated against Covid-19, raising the country’s total number of vaccine doses given to local people to 3,299,232.

Further, 14 provinces including Bac Lieu, Daklak, Dien Bien, Hai Duong, Ninh Binh had reported no new locally-infected cases for two weeks, while eight provinces such as Ninh Binh, Quang Tri, Son La have not reported any fresh domestic infection for the past 30 days.

In related news, HCMC as the second biggest coronavirus hotspot is set to perform Covid-19 test on a large scale for over five million residents citywide from June 26 to July 5, aimed at promptly detecting probable Covid-19 cases and cushioning the community spread of the virus.

According to the HCMC Center for Disease Control, between June 26 and 30, residents in District 8, Binh Tan, Tan Binh, Binh Chanh, and Hoc Mon districts will have their samples collected for testing. From July 1 to 5, residents in Thu Duc City and the remaining districts will undergo the testing.

People subject to the large-scale testing drive include local residents, employees at residential areas, industrial zones, hi-tech parks, and export processing zones.

As of this morning, HCMC reported 3,058 domestic infections in the latest coronavirus wave.
