Vietnam’s Da Nang books company for hosting over 100 people in office despite COVID-19

Functional forces in the central Vietnamese city of Da Nang on Tuesday booked a company for letting more than 100 people stay in one office room, posing a high threat of COVID-19 spread.

The people seen at the representative office of Vina Link Group JSC, which is active in the multilevel marketing business, on Tran Quoc Toan Street in Hai Chau District during police’s inspection included the company’s employees, customers, and distributors, sitting close together.

This is against the current regulations whereby the People’s Committee of Da Nang ordered the suspension of activities that gather more than 30 people in a common space.

Police in Hai Chau District thus made a record of the representative office’s administrative violation.

Officers also requested the crowd to disband and strictly comply with the five recommendations for transmission prevention, including no gathering, wearing face masks, keeping distance, disinfection, and performing health declaration.

“This behavior is so unacceptable that we’ll apply a punishment as strict as possible,” said a leader of Hai Chau District.

Police have also conducted verification related to the multilevel marketing operations of the aforementioned company’s representative office.

Da Nang recorded 60 community cases of COVID-19 from April 29 till now, according to a Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper's tally.

In order to stall infections, the municipal authorities have applied a number of measures, including restricting local restaurants from offering dine-in services since May 7, pausing religious, cultural, sporting, and entertainment activities, and suspending motorbike and car driving training from May 4.
