Many US universities promise scholarship for Vietnam’s top swimmer
Nearly 20 universities in the US have invited Vietnam’s top swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien for study even with their full scholarship, said the Vietnam Water Sports Association’s General Secretary Dinh Viet Hung.
According to Hung, while studying at these universities, Anh Vien still can practice swimming and compete at contests at the university sport centre or clubs. However, she has not yet decided what she wants to do.

Anh Vien has graduated from high school and is trying to learn English.
Her coach Dang Anh Tuan said that the Vietnam Water Sports Association will create favourable conditions for Anh Vien to develop her swimming skills as well as her studies.
Many universities in the US often have policies to recruit talents in different areas, including sport.
Vietnam Water Sports Association’s General Secretary Dinh Viet Hung said Anh Vien can join contests for her university. But, for professional contests with the participation of national teams, Anh Vien will participate as a member of Vietnam’s national team, which has clearly stipulated in Vietnamese laws.
Nguyen Thi Anh Vien, 21 years old, from the Mekong Delta City of Can Tho, won 8 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal and broke 8 SEA Games records. Recently, she won two golds and one silver at the Speedo Sectionals 2017 tournament held in Indianapolis, US from March 30 to April 2.
