Sam Son asked to differentiate itself in tourism development
Hue made the remark on April 22 at a function to kick off the vacation season in Sam Son and marked 110 years since the town was opened to tourism.
On this occasion, Deputy PM Hue also announced a resolution recently passed by the National Assembly Standing Committee to upgrade Sam Son’s status to a city under Thanh Hoa province.
He said urban and tourism infrastructure in Sam Son is being modernised to create a new seaside landscape that boasts many hotel, guesthouses, sports and entertainment facilities, notably the five-star FLC resort complex.
The deputy PM said Sam Son’s upgrade to city status not only recognises its importance but also requires the city to strive for stronger growth and make more contributions to Thanh Hoa province’s socio-economic development.
He asked the Thanh Hoa leadership to change their mindset, considering tourism as an encompassing economic sector that could contribute greatly to economic development, budget collection and job creation, as well as drive the growth of other sectors.
As part of the festival marking 110 years of Sam Son tourism, a wide range of activities will be held, including a street festival, a trade and tourism fair and several sports tournaments.
The tourism sector in Sam Son began in 1907 when the French discovered its potential and began turning the town into a resort destination for French officials as well as the Nguyen Dynasty’s emperors and officials.
