Work begins on second phase of Tien Sa – Da Nang port expanding project
The project, which has a total capital of nearly VND1 trillion, covers an area of six hectares.
The construction will consist of two jetties measuring 310 metres and 210 metres, two modern cranes, technical infrastructure and a number of warehouses. The upgraded port will meet the demands of docking for containers and cargo ships with a loading capacity of up to 70,000 DWT as well as passenger ships with a loading capacity of up to 100,000 GRT.
Once inaugurated and put into operation in June, 2018, the Tien Sa port is expected to handle up to 12 million tonnes of container goods per year.
During the first six months of 2016, the port has handled nearly 3.5 tonnes of cargo, an increase of 12% compared to the same period last year.
The expansion of Tien Sa port will contribute to making Da Nang port a modern facility able to accommodate container and tourist ships with high loading capacities.
The project also ensures the overall plans for transport development of Da Nang city until 2020, with orientation towards 2030 in line with the strategy for the Vietnamese ocean and sea-based economy development, contributing to socio-economic development in Da Nang, the central and Central Highland regions and the east-west economic corridor.
