HCMC – More than 3,600 coronavirus-infected people in HCMC had been discharged from hospitals as of yesterday, July 20, as they tested negative for the virus or positive but with a low viral load, according to the city’s health authority.

According to the HCMC Department of Health, yesterday saw 587 patients in the city being discharged from hospitals citywide, raising the total recoveries in the city to 3,658 since the start on April 27 of the current Covid-19 outbreak.

Among these patients, the field hospital No.1 released the highest number of cases.

Nguyen Thanh Truong, director of the field hospital No.1, said that the hospital had treated 4,423 cases. Since June 27, 1,712 patients have been released from the hospital, including 190 who tested positive for the virus but had a low viral load. This is great news amid the fast spread of the disease, he added.

As for the city’s fifth vaccination drive, the city will administer 930,000 Covid-19 vaccine doses on a large scale starting from July 22. The inoculation campaign will take place in two weeks at 20 hospitals and 615 vaccination sites citywide, with each site set to administer 120 doses per day.

During the upcoming vaccination drive, the city will prioritize inoculating people with underlying medical conditions, people aged above 65, people having made contributions to the country during the war, underprivileged residents and those working in the healthcare sector or as part of the Covid-19 fight.

Data from the Health Ministry showed that the ministry has allocated two million Covid-19 vaccine doses to HCMC by the end of this month.

In early September, the ministry is expected to continue to provide the city with an additional three million doses, bringing the total doses allocated to the city to five million.

In the ongoing fourth coronavirus wave, HCMC is the nation's biggest infection hotspot with the total case number soaring to 39,526 by this morning.
