Vietnamese models show off shades of breaking dawn

Eight models wear red outfits from the new collection of Vu Ngoc and Son and pose in a mangrove forest in Saigon.

“The forest in Can Gio has a pristine beauty with strong roots reaching out of the ground, which matches the spirit of our collection,” Ngoc and Son explain when asked why they chose the forest in Can Gio District to show off their ‘Dawn’ collection. The collection seeks to appreciate the beauty, energy and vitality of their homeland, they add.
They previously chose a forest in mountainous Da Lat Town, 320 km from Saigon. But the distance made them reconsider and they opted for Can Gio with its 70-hectare forest and 50 km distance from downtown.

Red fabric with yellow and green patterns is a recurrent theme in the collection. The contrast with the dark shades of the forest.
The collection features pencil skirts, off the shoulder dresses and classic skirts.

Yellow gladiolus patterns cause these outfits to stand out amid the roots and foliage.

The buffalo, the zodiac sign of the next lunar year, which starts on February 12, 2021, appears on many of the clothes. The duo also used traditional patterns like betel and areca to remind people of tradition.

A variety of fabrics such as taffeta, organza and tweed are used.

Male models wear red brocade shirts with traditional patterns.

Dawn collection will be showcased at the Ho Chi Minh City Museum on January 10, 2021.
Vu Ngoc and Son are well known for their colorful and eye-catching patterns, usually blending western and eastern sensibilities. They started their fashion career three years ago and have quickly become popular.
