HCMC wants to build two more bridges with Dong Nai
HCMC – The HCMC Department of Transport has proposed building Dong Nai 2 and Phu My 2 bridges linking the
HCMC – HCMC and Dong Nai Province will need one or two more bridges to facilitate inter-provincial connectivity.
The authorities have proposed building two additional bridges, Phu My 2 and Dong Nai 2, to ease traffic between the two localities.
According to the Road Network Development Plan for 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, there will be five bridges, namely Dong Nai, Long Thanh, Nhon Trach, Cat Lai and Phuoc Khanh, across a 40-kilometer section of the river, which is also the boundary between Dong Nai and HCMC.
Of the total, only two bridges, Dong Nai and Long Thanh, have been opened to traffic while Nhon Trach and Phuoc Khanh bridges will not be completed until 2025.
When work on the Cat Lai bridge begins remains unknown given differences over where the bridge should be located.
Therefore, the Dong Nai and Long Thanh bridges are currentlt overwhelmed with vehicles.
The Dong Nai Department of Transport has coordinated with a consultant to review the relevant plan and forecast the number of vehicle movements between Dong Nai and HCMC, said the Vietnam News Agency.
Dong Nai, the eastern gateway of HCMC, is separated from HCMC by rivers such as Dong Nai, Long Tau, Dong Tranh and Thi Vai. Therefore, building bridges plays an important role in connecting these two localities, especially when the Long Thanh International Airport in Dong Nai Province is put into operation.
