According to the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), the global seafood import demand is forecasted to continue at a high rate in 2022, having the driving force from the US and EU markets.
The US and EU economies receive a forecast of continuous growth in 2022. Consumer demand will remain high since seafood stocks and reserves in these markets have been low by the end of 2021.
Looking at the distant future, the continuous increase of global seafood demand is within expectation.
In its Agricultural Outlook 2021-2030, FAO predicts seafood consumption per capita of the world will increase by 3.6% during 2020 and 2030 and reach 21.2 kg/person/year by 2030. This is a notable increase compared to the 20.5 kg/person/year average rate in the 2018 - 2020 period.
Aquaculture is expected to provide 57% of fish for human consumption in 2030, 4% higher than the 2018-2020 period.
Seafood consumption may soon take roots in the mindset of people on all continents, driven by rising incomes, urbanization, production expansion, improved distribution channels, and product innovation.
