HCMC – Vingroup has handed over 30 coronavirus breathalyzers and consumable supplies to serve two million breath tests, with a total value of over VND460 billion, to the Ministry of Health.
Breath tests using the breathalyzers, developed by Singapore’s Breathonix, achieve more than 90% accuracy and show results in under a minute, according to the manufacturer.
The machine requires a person to blow into a single-use mouthpiece and the technology assesses the chemical compounds of the breath to determine whether a person is infected with Covid-19.
The Covid-19 breath test system, which can detect the disease within a minute, received provisional authorization from Singapore's Health Sciences Authority.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long praised Vingroup’s efforts to join the health sector in the fight against Covid-19 over the past few months, saying that the group contacted the manufacturer to buy the breath test machines to help the health sector as soon as Singapore approved the 60-second breath test.
Vingroup negotiated with Breathonix to ship the machines to Vietnam from now until the end of August, the local media reported.
The device that uses artificial intelligence technology is aimed at speeding up the testing process and reducing the burden on medical workers, Minister Long said.
If the breath test system is effective and meets the demands of Covid-19 prevention and control, the ministry will work with Vingroup to ship more of the machines to Vietnam to help the fight against the disease, said Long.
