— Vietnam logged 33 new community cases of COVID-19 in total from Sunday to 6:00 am on Monday, bringing the national tally to 1,819 patients with 1,457 recoveries and 35 virus-related deaths, according to the Ministry of Health.

— All samples of 57 students and 22 teachers and staff members at Xuan Phuong Elementary School in Nam Tu Liem District, Hanoi, who have been quarantined after a third grader was confirmed as a COVID-19 patient on Saturday, returned negative for the coronavirus, the district authorities reported on Sunday night.

— Authorities in northern Quang Ninh Province will sample and test all staff members of Vang Danh Coal JSC after a worker of the company was confirmed as a COVID-19 patient on Sunday night.

— The Ministry of Health on Sunday issued an urgent notice to find passengers boarding the flight VJ275 from Cat Bi International Airport in northern Hai Phong City to Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on January 18.

— Prof. Dr. Le Thanh Hai, director of Vietnam National Children’s Hospital, suddenly died at the hospital on Sunday afternoon despite normal health conditions, the institution said on the same day.

— Rach Mieu Ferry, which was officially put to use on Wednesday morning last week, connecting Tien Giang and Ben Tre Provinces in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta to relieve traffic pressure on Rach Mieu Bridge, was congested on Sunday afternoon due to a high volume of traffic from Ben Tre to Tien Giang.

Education

— The Department of Education and Training of southern Binh Phuoc Province on Sunday night issued an urgent decision to allow students in the entire province to stay home and study online from Monday for COVID-19 prevention and control.

Meanwhile, authorities in southern Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province also ordered schools in Phu My Town to close from Monday and other localities in the province from Tuesday, a few days earlier than the previously scheduled Lunar New Year holiday, as a student had traveled on the same flight as a COVID-19 patient.

Northern Vinh Phuc, Bac Ninh, and Tuyen Quang Provinces also allowed students to take early holidays from Monday.

— FPT University locked down its campus at Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park in Thach That District, Hanoi from Sunday evening after a male student had caught COVID-19.
