The Chinese restaurant attracts customers because of its strange name

HO CHI MINH CITY – Diners passing by Phung Hung market can visit the Khong shop over coffee chaff to enjoy Chinese food.

Mr. On Vinh An’s restaurant (31 years old) has been present at Phung Hung market (District 5) for 25 years. In the past, the shop was sold by his grandmother, there was no signboard, only a few chairs on the side of the road. At that time, the shop sold more dishes than now but not many people know it.

After being transferred by her to the shop, Mr. An named it Khat through cajeput to distinguish it from the Chinese shops in the same area. The name is named after bitter melon – a familiar dish of Chinese people, originating from Singapore with the name of mixed soup soup.

“I named the restaurant a bit different from the name of the dish to make customers sound strange and impressed. Many patrons frequented it. Seeing the name of the restaurant, we also know the character of the owner”, Mr. An smiled.

To make bitter melon through chili tomato, Mr. An uses vegetables such as bitter melon (bitter melon), tomatoes, chili, eggplant, tofu, stuffed with fish cakes and deep fried. When customers order, you can choose to eat bitter melon with tomato sauce with sweet soy sauce with fresh noodles or simmered soup from pork ribs. The owner adds basil, scallions and pepper to enhance the flavor. When eating, guests just need to dab the bitter melon over the tomato and chili over a cup of black soy sauce and satay, and add a spoonful of sweet and savory soup.

The shop also sells salted sticky rice, powdered sticky rice cakes, wonton cartilage leaves, fried dumplings, and rib noodles with prices from 35,000 to 60,000 VND / piece. In particular, the stewed pork rib noodle dish is a combination of traditional beef stew and five flavors of Malaysia, so it has a strange aroma and taste, served with bread, vermicelli or noodles or rice.

Mr. Nguyen Van Ty in Thu Duc City had the opportunity to pass by District 5, all stopped by Mr. An’s shop to buy takeout food. “Looking at the name of the restaurant, I feel cute, I see the word ‘chattering’, but the owner of the shop is the opposite of it,” he said.

And Chu Hoang Vu (District 5) said that the first time you came to Phung Hung market, you were most impressed with the name of Mr. An, so you should try: “I ate at the restaurant for about a year and also brought you here. With good food and affordable price for students, we have tried many dishes in the restaurant, the most favorite is the ribs cartilage wonton “.

On average, Mr. An sells about 300 servings of bitter melon each day through tomato chili. Diners are mainly young people, Chinese people living in the area. “This dish has a lot of vegetables, so during the Tet holiday, it is very popular because there is a lot of meat on a Tet tray, making people bored, eating this dish will be more harmonious,” suggested the owner.
