Lang Co Beach, Vietnam: Detailed travel guide

Lang Co town is more than 60 km from Hue City and about 25 km from Da Nang in Phu Loc district. Nestled in the middle of the branch of the Truong Son range crashing into the sea, one side is Hai Van Pass, and the other is Phu Gia Pass; near Chan May port, Lang Co appears as a beautiful and long stretch of dunes. There are also tropical forests in the Lang Co area.

Lang Co Bay has a length of 42.5 km, with clear blue sea water, fine white sand, diverse ecosystems. This is one of the famous landscapes and tourist attractions of Thua Thien - Hue province, considered by King Khai Dinh to be a "fairy tale" place. The Worldbays website ranked Lang Co Bay as "The most beautiful bay in the world" in 2009.

Beautiful season

The best time to explore Lang Co Bay is from April to early August.

Located near Da Nang, Lang Co is still north of Hai Van Pass, influenced by the northern climate, so there are distinct winters and summers. The average annual temperature is 24-25 degrees Celsius; winter can drop to 10 degrees Celsius, and summer is nearly 40 degrees Celsius. However, because this area has a large Cau Hai lagoon, the degree of influence of storms, floods, and hot and dry west wind is less severe than in other places in Thua Thien Hue province. Lang Co also has a rainy season from September to December, in which the two most rainy months are October and November.

Move

Lang Co is located along National Highway 1A, at the foot of Hai Van Pass, so it is convenient to travel by road, such as a private car or a bus.
If traveling by train or plane, visitors should choose the destination as Da Nang. It takes around one hour and fifteen minutes to go from the airport or railway station to Lang Co. If coming to Hue; the travel time will be double.
Airfares range from 2 million to 5 million round trip, depending on the time. The fastest train ticket price is about 2 million VND.

Stay

Lang Co has a diverse system of motels, hotels and resorts, serving many guests. Budget hotels are located along National Highway 1A, with prices ranging from 300,000 VND per night. Some addresses are highly rated on booking websites, such as BH Villa Lang Co, Ha Phuong Homestay, and Anh Dung Guesthouse.

More upscale accommodations include Lang Co Beach Resort. This resort is located on National Highway 1A, the town center, 4-star standard, with a large swimming pool and minimal visitor amenities. Room rates at Lang Co Beach Resort range from VND 700,000 a night, depending on the time.

About 20 km from the town center are two 5-star resorts, Angsana Lang Co and Banyan Tree Lang Co, on Canh Duong Beach. The two resorts have high-class facilities such as a large swimming pool, golf course, gym, and spa.

Angsana Lăng Cô has 229 rooms ranging from 52 m2 to 179 m2, more than 100 private pool rooms for 3 million VND per night. The interior is traditionally designed but still has a modern style, with eco-friendly materials such as bamboo, rattan, and palm trees creating a feeling like among Hue houses.

Banyan Tree Lăng Cô is situated adjacent to Angsana Lăng Cô. This is one of the most luxurious resorts in the Central region, with 72 villas, each with its swimming pool, from one to three bedrooms. Room rates are from 8 million VND per night. Banyan Tree focuses on biodiversity activities and relaxing experiences for visitors.

Destinations

The Phu Loc district has many destinations for visitors to experience and beautiful photo spots.

Bach Ma National Park

Bach Ma National Park is about 30 km from Lang Co town center. The national park has a rugged, mountainous landscape. Bach Ma Peak is 1,450 m high, ideal for many tourists who love trekking. If you have time, you can trek the entire arc in 2-3 days or combine trekking and a car ride to the top in about 6-7 hours.

Hai Vong Dai on the top, Do Quyen waterfall, Ngu Ho with the five most beautiful lakes in Bach Ma forest, and clear and cool streams are places not to be missed on the trekking journey. You can camp in the national park area, stay in an antique French home on the climb to the peak, or spend the night outside the garden gate.
Hai Van Quan
Hai Van Quan was built in 1826 and is a military stronghold on the top of Hai Van Pass, also the geographical boundary of Thua Thien - Hue province and Da Nang City. Hai Van Quan crosses a mountain range into the sea from the Truong Son range. About 15 kilometers separate Lang Co from the summit of Hai Van Pass. This vista of Lang Co Bay is very lovely. A coffee stop may be made at the summit during a morning or afternoon stroll.

Lap An lagoon

The lagoon is located at the foot of Phu Gia Pass, nearly 5 km from the center of Lang Co town, surrounded by Bach Ma mountain. Visitors should come to the lagoon in the early morning when the tide is low to see the path separating the water in the middle of the lagoon. King Khai Dinh and Bao Dai frequented this location to fish every summer. Near the lagoon is a small fishing village with local seafood restaurants, an ideal place to have lunch and explore the specialties of Lang Co.

Don Ca Arch bridge
At the base of Hai Van Pass lies the Don Ca arch bridge. The French built the first railway line in Vietnam between 1881 and 1885, linking Saigon with My Tho over a distance of 70 km. By the early 20th century, the route continued to be built through Hai Van Pass with a total length of 28 km, with 18 bridges, including the Don Ca Arch bridge. The bridge was inaugurated around 1906, with the architecture of 4 arches, built mainly of stone, 20 m high, with a length of about 100 m. Currently, the bridge plays an important role in the North-South railway line and is a check-in place that attracts young people.

Not located on the highway, but the bridge is quite easy to find. From the city center of Hue or Da Nang, you go towards Hai Van Bac station, near Hai Van Quan. After the station in Hai Van Bac, keep going for about 1 km.

Beaches

Lang Co Bay has many beautiful beaches, of which Canh Duong, Lang Co and Binh An are the three most prominent. At Canh Duong Beach, dawn is the most beautiful time. Visitors can watch the scene of the sun gradually rising from the horizon, embracing the arc-shaped beach, the sun's rays shining on the sea surface creating a sparkling effect. There are also many camping services, renting tents by the beach. At the base of Hai Van Pass, visitors can rent boats from local fishermen to explore the water.

Local specialty

Seafood grown and caught right in Lang Co Bay is rich and quality. A special thing about Lang Co is that you can stop and eat at any of the small restaurants along the road, especially the area at the bottom of Lang Co's slope. For example, a breakfast bowl of seafood porridge starts at 25,000 VND, while a full lunch would run you between 200,000 VND and 300,000 VND per person.

Some famous delicious seafood is here, such as oysters, shrimp, squid, and abalone. Some famous addresses include Viet Long floating restaurant, Minh Tam Restaurant, Be Than Restaurant, Anh Phi, and Vietpearl. In addition, floating rafts in the Lap An Lagoon area are also an option for tourists.

Note

Hai Van Pass tunnel is only for cars, so if you ride a motorbike up the pass when you return to Lang Co, you must go through the pass or send your motorbike on a transport vehicle.
Some beaches in Lang Co do not have warning signs or permanent rescue teams, so when swimming, you must avoid deep water sections to ensure safety.
In the evening in Lang Co, there are few entertainment activities because it is quite far from the city center.
