BASF Virtual Lab’s new experiments help local students learn about nature

HCMC – BASF, one of the world’s leading chemical companies, on December 22 introduced two more games in Vietnamese, namely “Green Wonder” and “The soil experiment”, at its BASF Virtual Lab (http://thinghiemvui.basf.com), an online platform that allows children to conduct a variety of interactive chemistry experiments.

Through the “Green Wonder” experiment, children will learn about photosynthesis, a process by which plants use sunlight, water and carbon dioxide to create oxygen. The school children will also learn about chlorophyll, a pigment responsible for the green color of the leaves, without which photosynthesis cannot work. Overall, they will better understand photosynthesis’s important role in people and our environment.

“The soil experiment” will help children learn about different soil types, including sandy soil, clay, silty soil and humus, based on the composition of the particles and components that make up our soil, for example, air and water. They will learn more about humus, an important component for storing water and nutrients in the soil, which is beneficial for planting flowers, fruits and vegetables.

“Science plays an essential role in our daily life and preparing the next generation of scientists is important for society and BASF. These two new experiments will allow Vietnamese children to explore the amazing world of chemistry and natural sciences – in an interactive and enjoyable way,” said Erick Contreras, managing director at BASF Vietnam.

In collaboration with the HCMC Department of Education and Training, BASF has localized and offered 12 virtual experiments to local primary students since 2018, contributing to the country’s effort to offer science, technology, engineering, and math education to young people and prepare them for future success, Contreras added.

The company, the same day, also donated 20 computer sets to help students from Bui Huu Nghia Primary School conduct these fun experiments and develop their computer skills.

BASF Virtual Lab, an extension of BASF’s global hands-on chemistry education program Kids’ Lab, provides a wide range of interactive experiments online. Children can experience the joy of chemistry anytime and anywhere by playing the role of researcher and conducting experiments in the virtual world of a laboratory.

BASF has been active in Vietnam since the establishment of its representative office in 1994. BASF Vietnam Limited was set up in 2009.

The company maintains two sales offices in HCMC and Hanoi, offering solutions for Vietnam’s key industries, including agriculture, construction, automotive, footwear, coatings and electronics.
