Cao Xa station in Hai Duong proposed as int’l intermodal rail terminal

HCMC – Cao Xa Station in Hai Duong Province has been put forward by Vietnam Railways (VNR) to be developed into an international intermodal rail terminal, according to a proposal submitted to the competent authorities.

During a recent meeting with Hai Duong authorities, VNR presented a plan to transform Cao Xa Station into an international intermodal rail terminal and suggested operating two transportation routes from this terminal for both import and export of goods.

Hai Duong is highly active in manufacturing and processing goods for import and export, boasting nearly 20 industrial parks and over 50 industrial clusters. The province has a significant demand for importing materials from China to Vietnam, as well as exporting goods to foreign markets such as China, the EU, and Russia.

Statistics indicate that the volume of goods transported via railway in Hai Duong Province reached about 7,600 tons last year and in the first five months of this year. However, the existing stations in the province do not meet the qualifications to operate international container transport routes.

By offering international intermodal transport services at Cao Xa Station, businesses can reduce transport time by two-thirds, as they will be able to conduct import-export procedures directly at the terminal instead of transporting goods to seaports for export to China and Europe.

VNR’s plan includes proposing two transport routes from the terminal.

The first route will commence from Cao Xa, passing through Kep Station in Bac Giang Province and Dong Dang Station in Lang Son Province, before reaching Bang Tuong Station in Guangxi, China. From there, the train will proceed further into mainland China or transit through China to reach Central Asia countries, Russia, and Europe.

The second route will start at Cao Xa Station in Hai Duong Province, then go through Lao Cai and reach Hekou Station in China, where the cargo will be transferred to another mode of transport for further transportation within mainland China.

Each train will be capable of transporting 20 to 25 containers, taking one day to travel from Cao Xa to Chongzuo Station in Guangxi and 1.5 days to reach a station in Yunnan.

Cao Xa Station is situated on the railway route from Hanoi to Hai Phong City and connected to Provincial Road 194B, which links the industrial parks in the province with Tien Kieu Port.
