With an age of up to 146 years, Le Quy Don High School (HCMC) is known as the “oldest” high school in Vietnam.

Le Quy Don High School was built in 1874 and completed in 1877, so far the school has been 148 years old. The school was built by the French, but in 1967 it was returned to the Vietnamese and renamed Le Quy Don High School, officially teaching and learning according to the Vietnamese educational program.

With architectural style imbued with Western Europe (France), Le Quy Don High School is considered as an architectural museum with a long cultural history. After many times of restoration and repair, the school still retains its ancient traditions.

After nearly 150 years of establishment and development, Le Quy Don High School is currently in the top 10 best high schools in Ho Chi Minh City. The school was honored to receive the National Standard School recognition certificate and the city-level Art and Architecture Relic ranking.

The school consists of 4 blocks, of which 3 old rows are connected together to form a U shape. New buildings are built adjacent to each other, framed to form a neat letter shape. Notably, in the middle of the school yard, there is a statue of the scientist Le Quy Don, with the famous saying “Pi tri is not restored”.

2Over the years, Le Quy Don High School has achieved a series of impressive achievements, such as the Third Class Labor Medal; Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister on Youth activities; Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of Education and Training; Certificate of Merit from the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City: excellent advanced unit for many years… Famous alumni who have studied here can be mentioned as Prof. Academician Tran Dai Nghia, Prof. Historian Tran Van Giau, Cultural House – Scholar Vuong Hong Sen, Composer Trinh Cong Son, singer Hong Nhung, director Nguyen Quang Dung, Meritorious Artist Hong Van, singer Phuong Thanh…

According to a recent summary report of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, Le Quy Don High School ranks second in the city in terms of the percentage of excellent students in the school year 2021-2022. The quality of education and training of this school is also verified when the entrance score of Le Quy Don school is always in the top of the city.
