Thousands of people travel to Yen Tu spring

QUANG NINH – This year, the province does not hold a festival, the weather is not favorable when the fog is thick, but people still flock to Yen Tu to enjoy the scenery and worship the pagoda on the first day of the year.

On February 9, which is the 9th day of the first lunar month, the weather in Yen Tu is 11 degrees Celsius with dense fog, occasional drizzle, but thousands of people still flock here. The entrances to the temple are more open than a few days ago.

In addition to walking, many people choose to take the cable car. The price of round trip cable car service is 260,000 VND/person. Currently, Quang Ninh province is reducing 50% of tickets to visit Yen Tu scenic spots, which is only 20,000 VND/time/adult and 10,000 VND/time/child.

Buddha statue of Emperor Tran Nhan Tong was created and decorated in Hue Quang tower, Yen Tu, from the 17th century; recognized as a National Treasure by the end of 2020.

Hoa Yen pagoda area is sparsely populated, no jostling occurs. Due to fog and occasional drizzle, the temple grounds are wet. This is the largest and most ancient temple in Yen Tu, located at an altitude of 535 m above sea level.

The pagoda was built during the Ly Dynasty, named Phu Van. Over 700 years ago, this was just a very small workshop – where Buddha Emperor Tran Nhan Tong preached, then the Buddha changed his name to Van Yen. All three monks of Truc Lam Yen Tu Zen sect are abbots at this temple. During the Le Dynasty, King Le Thanh Tong came here to admire the scenery and saw the fresh green leaves and flowers, and changed its name to Hoa Yen Pagoda.

People take pictures next to the ancient cypress trees. In Yen Tu, there are hundreds of ancient spruce trees over 700 years old, all numbered and protected.

Ancient chain, also known as fake royal dan, Hong Tung, is listed in Vietnam’s red book. This tree is said to have been planted at the same time as Thai Thuong Hoang and Buddha Emperor Tran Nhan Tong came to Yen Tu to practice and establish the Truc Lam Zen sect.

Fog covers Mot Mai Pagoda, making the pagoda even more quiet and ancient.

Inside the pagoda, there is an underground water stream flowing down the cliff into a small hole. The water here is likened to a mother’s milk that never runs out. Many people come here to ask for water to drink with the belief that “drinking water in the temple will be cool and healthy all year”.

The largest bronze Buddha statue of Emperor Tran Nhan Tong in Vietnam. Inaugurated in early December 2013, the statue is cast in monolithic bronze, 15 m high, weighing 138 tons, located on the top of An Ky Sinh with an altitude of 900 m above sea level.

The total length from the foot to the top of Yen Tu mountain is about 6,000 m. Along the way are slippery stone steps, many places are very dangerous, especially the part near Dong pagoda.

Many people sit temporarily on the cliffs along the way to Dong Pagoda.

Thu Thuy and Nguyen Thu from Hung Yen were happy to climb up to Dong Pagoda. “This is my first time visiting Yen Tu. I feel very happy and excited when I climb up to Dong Pagoda. It feels like conquering something. Up here, you can feel the fresh and quiet air,” Thu Thuy said.

People celebrate at Dong pagoda mainly with confectionery, fruit, no salty food.

Located on the top of Yen Tu, Dong Pagoda was built in the Later Le Dynasty with the name Thien Truc Tu. In 2007, the new pagoda was cast entirely of pure copper with a length of 4.6 m, a width of 3.6 m, a height of 3.35 m, and a weight of more than 70 tons.
