HCMC - The Investigation Police Agency of Hanoi has arrested and prosecuted two female students for aiding the illegal immigration of Chinese nationals into Vietnam.

Police officers of Thanh Xuan District found five Chinese nationals at a house on Nguyen Trai Street on April 20. The Chinese said they rented the house from Tran Thi Phuong Thao, who resides in Thanh Son District, Phu Tho Province.

In 2020, Thao, 22, befriended a Chinese named Ou Guo Pei via Facebook. Ou Guo Pei and another Chinese identified as Vuong suggested Thao rent houses and apartments to Chinese people who enter Vietnam illegally.

Thao, together with her friend Dinh Thi Hue, who is also 22 years old and resides in Thanh Son District, Phu Tho Province, rented a number of condo apartments and houses in Thanh Xuan District and then leased these apartments to illegally immigrating Chinese nationals.

Ou Guo Pei has been arrested, while Vuong has fled.

Thao and Hue were studying at a university in Hanoi.

The Hanoi police are conducting further investigation.
