Nghia Trai (Van Lam, Hung Yen) is a traditional craft village specializing in the processing of long-standing medicinal plants, especially chrysanthemums that have been cultivated here for hundreds of years. Chrysanthemum is a precious medicinal herb with many good uses for health in traditional medicine.

Cuc chi has only one crop a year. Flowers are planted from about June of the solar calendar, to the end of November, they begin to bloom, signaling the full harvest season in December until the New Year. 

In the harvest season, each person can pick 23 kg of fresh flowers/day. Chrysanthemum flowers are then brought back to dry and sold. In the form of clean drying (charcoal drying) the price is about 500,000 VND/kg of dried flowers. If dried with sulfuric acid, the price is much cheaper, about 200,000 VND/kg. You can also sell fresh flowers, but the price is quite cheap, only 35,000 VND/kg. 

Nghia Trai belongs to Tan Quang commune, currently grows nearly 20ha of medicinal plants, 38ha of ornamental flowers, mainly in Nghia Trai village, with 80% of households participating in growing medicinal plants. This is a traditional profession, which has been left by many generations of his father, and has existed for several hundred years.

Of the total area of ​​medicinal plants, up to 70% of the area of ​​Nghia Trai village is devoted to growing chrysanthemums. The main use of chrysanthemum flowers is to make tea and medicinal herbs after drying.

Chrysanthemum plant is easy to grow, but at the beginning of the crop when it is young, the plant is very susceptible to pests such as earthworms, greenworms, aphids, jumping beetles, etc. Nghia Trai people often have to use biological drugs to kill them. pests.

The field of yellow flowers is dazzling to the eye, giving it a splendid beauty, and immediately catches the eye of anyone who sees it for the first time. In the harvest season, not only Nghia Trai people in the field, but also many flower lovers and landscape enthusiasts come to admire the beauty of this place.

Along with chrysanthemum, Nghia Trai also grows many varieties such as: patchouli, ancient ginseng, mandarin betel, perilla, marjoram, core gas, lemongrass, turmeric… are all precious and commonly used medicinal herbs. in herbal remedies.

Every year, people in Nghia Trai process and trade thousands of tons of medicinal herbs of all kinds. Small-scale processing families each year from 30 to 50 tons, while large households process hundreds of tons a year.

The main market of Nghia Trai is pharmaceutical agents in big cities, domestic pharmaceutical companies and exporting to China. In addition, Nghia Trai is also a reliable address of traditional oriental medicine clinics inside and outside the province.

In the past years, the cultivation of medicinal plants used to be a source of income for the people of Nghia Trai.
