HCMC - The Ministry of Industry and Trade on May 18 said that some 100 tons of lychees would be exported to Australia in the near future.

The ministry said the Vietnam Trade Office in Australia has worked with fruit importers on a plan to ship around 100 tons of lychees from Vietnam to Southern and Western Australia. As for the remaining states, the office is continuing to connect trade, based on the shipping status.

In the context of the complicated development of Covid-19, the office will continue to connect trade throughout the lychee season and appoint staff to coordinate in solving technical difficulties caused by import procedures in Australia.

In 2020, despite the impacts of Covid-19, the export turnover of the Vietnamese lychee to Australia increased by 188% over the same period in 2019.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the company, 4wayfresh, in Australia along with Red Dragon (Vietnam) are units that have made great efforts to improve the preservation process and coordinated with the trade office to implement measures promoting the growth of the lychee market in Australia.

Bac Giang and Hai Duong are currently two localities with a very large lychee growing area in Vietnam. At the moment, the two localities are preparing to enter the lychee harvest season; however, the development of Covid-19 is hindering harvest, transportation and consumption.

Ministries, sectors and locals have actively stepped in, suggesting plans for consumption, connecting and searching for new markets, besides the traditional market of China.
