1. How to move to Nguom Ngao cave?

  • By bus:

From Hanoi to Ban Gioc, there are two following bus routes:

Route 1: bus Hanoi – Thai Nguyen – Bac Kan – Cao Bang – Trung Khanh – Ban Gioc

Route 2: bus Hanoi – Lang Son – Dong Khe – That Khe – through Phuc Hoa Pass – Trung Khanh – Ban Gioc

  • By motorbike:

From the center of Hanoi, go towards Thanh Tri Bridge, go to Hanoi – Thai Nguyen Expressway, then go to Bac Kan province and go straight to NH3 to get to Cao Bang center.

This route is quite convenient, but the road is a bit empty and there are almost no shops or rest stops until passing through the territory of Phu Luong district – Thai Nguyen. Therefore, you need to actively stockpile food or bring gas bottles.

Note If you are not an experienced silk driver, you should travel by bus or follow a group with a hard leader because the pass road is quite dangerous and you should reserve a little food and fuel because there are few roadside shops

2. The right time to explore Nguom Ngao cave

You should visit Ngom Ngao cave from May to September. The name Nguom Ngao intrigues many tourists when coming here, there is a legend about this particular name. Legend has it that in the past , Nguom Ngao cave was inhabited by tigers, they resided here and often disturbed surrounding villages.

Later, the people destroyed all the tigers and named the cave Nguom Ngao, in Tay language meaning Nguom and Ngao means tiger, the name Nguom Ngao means tiger cave.

The beauty of Nguom Ngao cave is very special, each corner has its own character and almost no repetition. The most impressive thing is the center of the cave, where there is a very open space with soaring ceilings that can accommodate up to hundreds of people. Here, there are very large stony coral trees and rocks shaped like terraced fields.
