The cold wave conditions are likely to continue in parts of Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi.

The effect of cold northwest winds is now visible in parts of eastern India, causing a drop in temperature by 1 or 2 degrees. Cold wave conditions are also prevailing in eastern Uttar Pradesh and parts of Bihar.

5-Day Nationwide Weather Forecast

According to Weather.com, as southern India continues to celebrate the 4-day Pongal festival, the cyclonic circulation that brought locally heavy rains to Tamil Nadu on Wednesday will be moving into Lakshadweep on Thursday. Some heavy spells of rain and thunderstorms are likely there on the day. Meanwhile, rains and thunderstorms are expected to persist across Tamil Nadu and Kerala until Sunday, albeit while weakening.

As for the north, cold northwesterly winds are likely to be dominant over the plains in northern and central India until Saturday. Minimum temperatures will tend to be cooler than normal in these parts, and cold wave and/or cold day conditions with some severe intensity are likely over some pockets.

Owing to this intensity, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert (“be prepared” for rough conditions) over the states and territories of Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh from January 14-16.

Further, dense fog and the resultant low visibility are very likely in some pockets of Northern and Central plains during the morning hours for the next five days. Some parts of Eastern and Northeastern India are likely to see shallow to moderate fog as well.

A feeble cyclonic circulation over Assam could produce isolated snow/rain over Arunachal Pradesh from Friday onwards. It may have some intense and wider extent beyond Monday.

Maximum temperatures will be average or cooler than normal across the northern plains for the next five days.
