The mirror ‘through the air’ in Da Lat

LAM DONG – The mirror with a unique design in a cafe is causing fever in the tourism community.

On Da Lat tour groups, a rectangular mirror carved with a circle in the middle, placed on a meadow reflecting the hilly landscape is receiving a lot of attention. It is a work in a coffee shop on Mimosa pass by Truong Hoai Nam, born in 1990, currently living and working in Da Lat.

The travel-loving community named his mirror a “through-the-air” mirror due to the visual effect that helps visitors feel like they’re stepping into another dimension. Hoai Nam got this design idea from a time when he happened to see a foreign newspaper, saw a mirror placed in the middle of a golden rice field, so he followed it. To install the mirror, Hoai Nam had to order it from Ho Chi Minh City, it took 2 weeks to complete. The mirror went into official use from the afternoon of March 1, attracting attention. “The number of visitors started to increase from March 3, two days after installing the mirror. I think at the weekend, the number of visitors will increase even more. Every day, about 300-400 guests come to check-in,” Hoai Nam shared.

Hoai Nam said unique ideas will naturally attract tourists. However, he hopes people do not abuse but create check-in points based on available platforms, not destroying the landscape. Installing a mirror in the midst of the increasing trend of check-in with mirrors in Da Lat cafes, Nam still said: “Check-in is just an extra part. The main thing is to create a peaceful and relaxing space. The best feeling is sitting on the hill, looking out into the distance, breathing in the fresh air to forget the fatigue.” In addition to the mirror “through the air”, Nam’s cafe is located on the hill of purple myrtle flowers. In between, he planted canola flowers and sunflowers, serving many corners for guests who love flowers to take pictures.

Currently, the video about the mirror has garnered nearly 2 million views on TikTok and many likes and shares on Facebook. Hoai Nam wittily introduces to everyone as a mirror of “making a lover” when just passing here, visitors will find their other half. Most of the comments are interesting and want to invite friends and lovers to take pictures. However, there are a few conflicting comments such as: “Da Lat is now like a giant greenhouse”, referring to too many coffee shops with mirrors to attract customers to check-in.
