HCMC – The Ministry of Health this morning, May 25, confirmed 57 new Covid-19 cases, with Bac Giang Province reporting the most number of 45 cases.

Among the remaining cases, two each were detected in Bac Ninh and Ha Nam and four each in Hanoi and Lang Son.

These new cases sent the Covid-19 tally in Vietnam during the current Covid-19 wave since April 27 to 2,405 cases.

Six localities, including Yen Bai, Quang Ngai, Dong Nai, Nghe An, Quang Ninh and Quang Nam, have gone 16 consecutive days without new Covid-19 cases.

Meanwhile, the Hanoi City government on May 24 banned restaurants from offering on-site services from 12 a.m. today. In addition, hairdressers’, and parties and outdoor activities with large gatherings will be suspended.

Moreover, Bac Ninh has set up 18 checkpoints around the city of the same name in an effort to slow down the spread of Covid-19.

In related news, investigators in the northern province of Hai Duong on May 24 filed charges against Dao Duy Tung, a native of Cam Giang District living in Hai Duong City, for allegedly causing Covid-19 community transmission.

He has recovered from the disease and is under medical monitoring for another 21 days, so the police have prepared a separate detention room for him.

According to the investigators, in late March, Tung crossed the border to reach Laos for work and illegally returned to Vietnam on April 24. He tested positive for Covid-19 on May 6. After entering Vietnam, he traveled to five localities—Hai Duong, Haiphong, Hanoi, Hung Yen and Ha Nam and had contact with many people.
