Vietnamese elections receive wide coverage of global media

NDO - The National Assembly and People’s Council elections in Vietnam have attracted extensive coverage from news agencies around the world.


According to the Nhan Dan correspondent in Laos, Pasaxon - the organ of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party - ran an article headlined “Vietnamese voters have high hopes for new National Assembly and People’s Councils”.

The article emphasised that, following the success of the 13th Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly and People’s Council elections are an important political event and a major festival for all Vietnamese people.

The writer believed that Vietnam will be able to select suitable deputies to the National Assembly and People’s Council at all levels in accordance with the trust of voters.

According to the Nhan Dan correspondent in China, Chinese media has provided widespread coverage of Vietnam’s National Assembly and People’s Council elections for the 2021-2026 tenure.

A report by the People’s Daily correspondent stated that more than 69 million eligible voters cast their ballots at the tens of thousands of polling stations across the country. Voters went to the polls early and complied with guidelines on preventing the spread of Covid-19.

The Xinhua news agency and other online websites in China also covered the elections in Vietnam.

Reuters reported that millions of mask-wearing Vietnamese went to the polls on Sunday to select the new legislature and members of the people's councils.

The Malaysian national news agency Bernama reported that over 69 million voters across Vietnam went to the polls on May 23 to elect deputies to the National Assembly and People’s Councils for at all levels. It added that Vietnam had made thorough preparations to ensure safety for the elections.

In an interview given to the Vietnam News Agency, Veeramalla Anjaiah, a senior researcher at the Centre for Southeast Asian Studies in Jakarta and a senior journalist, stated that Vietnam’s election of deputies to the 15th National Assembly and the People’s Councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 term are of great significance.

He added that Vietnam’s election body made all preparations to conduct the important elections in an open, safe and transparent manner.

According to Lye Liang Fook, Senior Fellow at Singapore-based ISEAS - Yusof Ishak Institute, the new National Assembly will lead Vietnam in its next important development stage, which will focus on growth and innovation, digital economy, hi-tech manufacturing, and quality education and healthcare.
