HCMC – Vietnam’s TT Meridian has sent the first shipment of seedless lychees to the UK, which arrived in the Western European market on June 16, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

This is the fourth Vietnamese specialty fruit to be exported to the UK under the official quota this year after Tan Lac grapefruits, Dien Yen Thuy grapefruits, and Cao Phong oranges, all from the northern province of Hoa Binh.

Earlier, representatives of Japanese enterprises came to Hai Duong to inspect the lychee growing area of the province.

The VNA also stated that the Asian-African Market Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade has proposed many solutions to increase the export of lychees to Japan including expanding the growing area, improving the quality, introducing the farm produce in Japan, and diversifying lychee products.

Hai Duong is home to nearly 9,000 hectares of lychee, with annual output of around 60,000 tons. The province has been issued 203 Production Unit Codes to export lychee around the world, including Japan.

In related news, also on June 16, the Dong Nai People’s Committee and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development held a function to jointly announce the export the first consignment of durians to China in accordance with a protocol signed with the neighboring country.

It is expected that this year the province will ship 20,000 tons of durians to China from 11 planting areas with the total area of more than 800 hectares.

The province now boasts six packing houses and 11 durian planting areas provided with an official export code from China. Additionally, 61 farms with nearly 2,000 hectares under durian cultivation and four durian packing houses have sent their documents for registration with relevant agencies for export durians to China.
