Work starts on bridge linking Haiphong, Quang Ninh

HCMC – The government of Haiphong City yesterday, February 2, broke ground on a project to build the Lai Xuan Bridge, which will connect the northern port city with neighboring Quang Ninh Province, and widen Provincial Road 352.

The Lai Xuan Bridge, which will be 840 meters long and 12 meters wide, will span the Da Bach River, linking the city’s Thuy Nguyen District with the province’s Dong Trieu Town, the local media reported.

The 14-kilometer Road 352 will be widened to 12 meters.

The project will require over VND1.3 trillion using the local budget, with more than VND1.32 trillion contributed by Haiphong and over VND12 billion from Quang Ninh. It is slated for completion in December of next year.

The Haiphong management board for traffic projects will serve as the project’s investor.

Currently, vehicles and local residents take ferry rides to commute between Thuy Nguyen District and Dong Trieu Town. Therefore, the project, once completed, would help facilitate travel in the region.

In May last year, the municipal government began work on the Ben Rung bridge project spanning the Bach Dang River and linking Thuy Nguyen District with Quang Ninh’s Quang yen Town. Aside from the two under-construction Lai Xuan and Ben Rung bridges, the two northern localities are connected via the Da Bac Bridge along National Highway 10 and the Bach Dang Bridge on the Hanoi-Haiphong-Ha Long Expressway, according to news site vnexpress.vn.
