What are Ho Chi Minh City’s COVID-19 quarantine and treatment capacities?

Authorities in Ho Chi Minh City have been preparing 50,000 beds for COVID-19 treatment given the continuous spikes in daily infections.

At a meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Sunday, chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong reported that city-level authorities are currently operating 14 concentrated quarantine facilities with the total capacity of 7,000 people.

The people’s committees in 21 districts and Thu Duc City are also managing 88 quarantine centers that can house up to 10,000 people.

Fifty-five hotels, with a capacity of 4,000, have been authorized to offer paid quarantine services.

Regarding the city’s treatment capacity, authorities have plans to prepare 50,000 beds for residents infected with COVID-19, chairman Phong stated.

According to the city’s Department of Health, 23 COVID-19 treatment hospitals, with a combined capacity of 36,700 beds, are currently in operation.

The hospitals are divided into four categories to treat different types of COVID-19 patients.

There are 11 makeshift hospitals with 30,000 beds for patients with no or mild symptoms, five hospitals offering 2,500 beds to patients exhibiting moderate symptoms, and four hospitals with 3,000 beds for patients with serious underlying health conditions.

The city has 1,200 resuscitation beds at three hospitals for patients with severe symptoms or in critical conditions.

Vietnam had documented 42,288 COVID-19 cases as of Friday morning, with 9,688 recoveries and 207 deaths, according to the Ministry of Health statistics.

The country has recorded 38,726 local infections in 58 provinces and cities since the fourth outbreak began on April 27.

Ho Chi Minh City is the hardest-hit locality with 22,564 cases.
