HCMC - The Ministry of Health this morning, June 23 confirmed 55 fresh locally-infected Covid-19 cases in HCMC, Bac Giang and Nghe An, with HCMC recording the most, 51.

Among the latest infections in HCMC, 41 cases were detected at quarantine facilities or in areas under lockdown.

Bac Giang and Nghe An provinces reported two domestic cases each, all of them discovered at quarantine centers.

The 55 new domestic cases raised the country’s total number of infections during the fourth wave of the coronavirus since April 27 to 10,495, with 2,772 patients having recovered from the disease.

As of 4.00 p.m. on June 22, some 2.57 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine had been administered to people in Vietnam.

In Binh Duong Province, to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in its industrial parks, the province has proposed the Ministry of Health allocate it an additional 500,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine for workers, said Director of the provincial Department of Health Nguyen Hong Chuong.

The ministry had earlier provided the province with 40,000 doses that were already administered to the people. Some 20,000 doses will be allocated to the province in the coming time, but the volume will not meet the province’s needs, leading to the proposal.

Meanwhile, the Dong Nai government has called on workers who enter the province from other localities to temporarily stay in the province due to the complicated development of Covid-19 in HCMC and Binh Duong. The province also asked firms to arrange accommodations for workers in firms, the local media reported.

In another development, the Tay Ninh steering committee for Covid-19 infection prevention and control on June 22 decided to requisition the Chau Thanh District Healthcare Center and the Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases Hospital as the hospitals for Covid-19 treatment, with a combined 382 beds for Covid-19 patients.
