Sonny Vu's carbon-based 3D-printed scooter campaign is temporarily locked to verify user allegations

The campaign to raise capital for Arevo's Scotsman All-Carbon Fiber electric scooter, founded by Mr. Sonny Vu, started around May 2021. The product is also part of a 3D printed vehicle project made from carbon fiber similar to the Superstrata bicycle model, which is called by Mr. Sonny Vu and Mrs. Le Diep Kieu Trang - former Director of Facebook Vietnam.

According to the expected plan written on the Indiegogo fundraising page, the scooter will start handing over to capital contributors in December 2021, but so far, only a few people have received the product. Currently, Indiegogo temporarily suspended fundraising for this project after many people left comments about not receiving goods as well as any support from the fundraising unit or Mr. Sonny Vu personally. The decision of the fundraising platform means that the unit will verify the project's information and stop receiving more contributions from members.

Before being put into "frozen", the project raised more than 564,999 EUR from 301 contributors, equivalent to an increase of 595% compared to the manufacturer's plan (92,000 EUR).
Previously, Arevo - a start-up manufacturing 3D printed bicycles of Mr. Sonny Vu and Mrs. Le Diep Kieu Trang, former Director of Facebook Vietnam, was misrepresented by users for their commitment to delivery and poor quality sales for the Superstrata 3D printed bicycle.

Who is Sonny Vu?

Sonny Vu is one of the most famous people in industrial start-ups, of which the biggest success is the founding of Misfit Wearables, a wearable device for health monitoring. In 2015, Fossil Group acquired Misfit for $260 million.

Sonny Vu (full name is Vu Xuan Son) was born in 1973 in Long Xuyen. He left Vietnam with his family in 1979. Vu Xuan Son graduated with a double degree in mathematics and linguistics from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign branch.

Education

• He graduated with both BA degrees in Mathematics and Linguistics from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
• He studied for a doctorate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) but still needs to complete the program.
• Although he did not complete his doctoral program, he was still called Doctor (Dr.) because he completed his doctoral thesis in linguistics at MIT.
• Sony Vu has extensive knowledge of Mathematics, Linguistics and Information Technology. This greatly helped his career in starting and managing his business.

Career

• He started his own business and failed while studying for a doctorate at MIT in 1996. After that, he worked at Microsoft.
• In 1999, he again gave up a stable job at Microsoft to return to study at MIT but left halfway to found the first technology company, FireSpout.
• This technology was sold to a large corporation in 2001.
• With old classmates, he founded Agamatrix, operating in the field of blood glucose monitoring devices for people with diabetes. This is the first great success of Sony Vu.
• In 2011, he gave up his management position at Agamatrix to start his own company, Misfit Wearables, operating in the field of smartwatches. This was his most successful company, which Fossil later acquired for $260 million.
• Sony Vu is considered a pioneering entrepreneur who dares to give up a stable job to pursue his dream of starting a business. Many times failed at first but still achieved great success in the end.

Who is Le Diep Kieu Trang?

Le Diep Kieu Trang (English name Christy Le) was born in 1980 in Ho Chi Minh City. She is the daughter of Mr. Le Van Tri, former Deputy General Director of Southern Rubber Industry Joint Stock Company (Casumina - CSM). Her brother is Le Tri Thong, former Deputy General Director of Dong A Bank and currently Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Phu Nhuan Jewelry Joint Stock Company (PNJ). Her husband, Sonny Vu (real name Vu Xuan Son), is the co-founder and CEO of the fashion electronics company Misfit Wearables.

• Graduated from Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, Ho Chi Minh City.
• Studied at Nguyen Tat Thanh University (less detailed information).
• Studied a Bachelor's degree at Said Business School of the University of Oxford, UK, 2000-2003.
• Studied for master's degree at the Sloan School of Business of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT Sloan School of Management), 2009-2011.
