China approves additional 47 Vietnamese durian growing area codes

The General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) has granted an additional 47 growing area codes to Vietnamese durian, bringing the total number of planting area codes up to 293.

The Plant Protection Department under the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development earlier received a document from the GACC notifying the results of the planting area codes and packaging facilities that fully meet the requirements for export to the Chinese market during the online inspection conducted in January.

As a result, 47 out of 51 growing areas and 18 packaging facilities have met the stringent requirements, and they have therefore been granted codes by Chinese customs.

China has so far approved a total of 293 growing area codes and 115 packaging facilities in Vietnam eligible for export to its market.

Currently, the Plant Protection Department is working alongside the GACC in order to agree on the next inspection for 400 durian growing areas and 60 packaging facilities in Vietnam.

After reaching a general consensus on the inspection schedule, the department will notify relevant localities in order to make proactive preparations and actively co-ordinate alongside Chinese customs to implement the scheme set by the Chinese side.

Durian is one of the 11 Vietnamese fruits licensed to officially enter the Chinese market. Ten other fruits are dragon fruit, watermelon, lychee, longan, banana, mango, jackfruit, rambutan, mangosteen, and passion fruit.
