HCMC – HCMC will launch the second Covid-19 relief package to support affected businesses and employees who have been furloughed due to the pandemic, aimed at fulfilling the dual task of fighting it and ensuring economic growth, Nguyen Thanh Phong, chairman of the city government, announced at a meeting on June 1.

The second relief package will be implemented starting from this month until the end of the year, with a focus on virus-hit tourism, transport operators and small and medium-scale enterprises. Also, employees in the informal sector and teachers of public and private schools who have encountered financial difficulties or been furloughed due to the disease for at least one month will be entitled to the aid.

The HCMC Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs has urgently proposed other departments, authorities of Thu Duc City and 21 districts citywide review the operations of businesses and small-scale manufacturing facilities that suffered from the impact of the public health crisis in order to map out support solutions as part of the second relief package.

The Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs also requested the departments and agencies to survey the business performance of enterprises and education facilities that furloughed employees for at least one month.

The departments and agencies were urged to complete these tasks and send the results to the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs before 15:00 on June 7 so that the latter can submit it to the HCMC government.

Amid the spike in new cases in the city, the city government asked businesses to strictly require staff to do health declarations, closely monitor the health of their employees and find out reasons why their employees take leave in order to promptly detect possible outbreaks. During operations, each business should make proper adjustments to both ensure compliance with anti-Covid-19 measures and maintain an adequate business performance.
