Vietnam tells fashion brands to respect its sovereignty over Paracel and Spratly Islands

HCMC – As many international fashion brands, including H&M, have posted maps with the illegal nine-dash line on their websites, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang, at a regular press briefing on April 8, affirmed that all enterprises operating in Vietnam must respect and comply with the local law.
Hang reiterated that Vietnam had sufficient historical and legal evidence over its sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagoes in line with international law, the local media reported.
Enterprises must respect the country’s sovereignty over the two archipelagoes as well as its sovereignty, sovereign rights and jurisdiction over its waters in the East Sea.
All activities propagating and promoting content that goes against the historic truth and the international law are valueless and cannot change the reality, Hang stressed.
H&M is already being boycotted in Vietnam. Besides H&M, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, YSL, Zara and Uniqlo have also used maps with the illegal nine-dash line on their websites, local media reported.
