14 days, traveling a distance of 5,500km, Mr. Van and Mrs. Nhung could not help but be satisfied and happy when traveling with her children and grandchildren around Vietnam, experiencing cloud hunting, and conquering “dinosaur spines” in Vietnam. almost 80 years old.

14 days across Vietnam, celebrating Tet away from home for 3 generations

Sharing with PV Dan Tri, Mr. Duong Dinh Thinh said that next year, his father-in-law will turn 80 years old. To celebrate this memorable milestone, the brothers, sisters, and brothers in his wife’s family together contribute, and decided to give his parents a long trip, to the places he once wished to visit.

The plan to bring parents to Vietnam this time was conceived by Mr. Thinh and his wife, the schedule from half a year ago.

Having a passion for traveling, having traveled for a long time in many places, Thinh was trusted by his brothers and sisters, assigned the responsibility of “representative” to accompany his father on his journey to Vietnam.

Thinh’s extended family checked-in in Ha Giang.

The trip of Mr. Thinh’s extended family started on the evening of the 26th of Tet, lasting a total of 14 days.

From Ho Chi Minh City, he and his wife and 3 children (14 years old, 11 years old, 9 years old) returned to his wife’s hometown – Sa Dec (Dong Thap) to pick up his parents.

On a 7-seater car, the family moved along the route Ho Chi Minh City – Quy Nhon – Da Nang – Quang Binh – Hanoi – Son La – Ha Giang – Cao Bang – Lang Son – Quang Ninh – Hanoi – Hai Phong – Nam Dinh – Thanh Hoa – Hue – Phu Yen – Ninh Thuan – HCMC.

The total distance both going and returning is more than 5,500km.

Although he has a lot of experience in backpacking and driving for a long time, Thinh admits he was a little nervous when taking his wife’s parents on a long trip for the first time and celebrating Tet in many provinces across the country.

On this trip, Mr. Thinh was in charge of driving and taking pictures. And Ms. Tuyet is in charge of dining and booking accommodation.

To ensure safety and maintain strength, in the afternoon, Mr. Thinh drove about 500-650km and then rested. In the afternoon, he shortened about 400km / way, when tired, he would visit a coffee shop for his family to eat and rest. At the end of each leg, the members will stop at hotels and motels along the way to regain their spirits to continue the journey early the next morning.

Mr. Thinh said, traveling with elderly parents is not difficult, just a little more time to stop and rest for the members to ensure their health and not get tired along the way.

Thinh loves to take pictures and synchronize, so he prepared “ton sur ton” costumes for the whole family a month before.

Fortunately, during the 14-day journey from South to North and vice versa, Thinh’s extended family did not have any problems, the only time the car was about to run out of oil when going from Ha Giang to Cao Bang. The members also always keep the best state.

Conquer the “dinosaur spine” at an altitude of 2,865m

Ta Xua – a highland commune in Bac Yen district, where the border of the two districts of Tram Tau (Yen Bai) and Bac Yen (Son La) is the destination that members, especially Mr. South and North travel. They arrived here after 3 days of driving from HCMC.

After once knowing the “dinosaur spine” place in Ta Xua on Youtube, Mr. Van was very fond of this place and wanted to conquer.

Therefore, before departing, he eagerly got up early, prepared warm clothes carefully.

And Mr. Thinh could not help but worry, impatient. For one night, he wondered if he should bring his father to this destination because this is a place that he and his wife had thought about but did not dare to try because it was quite risky with the elderly and children.

To go to the “dinosaur spine” area, Thinh’s family rented motorbike taxis from locals. Everyone couldn’t help but be surprised and enjoy taking pictures when witnessing the sea of clouds floating, embracing Ta Xua.

To ensure safety, from the beginning of the way to the back of the dinosaur, Mrs. Nhung and her grandchildren stopped here to rest and admire the scenery, while Mr. Thinh and Mr. Van continued their journey.

“My mother is old, her health is a bit weak, but the children are young and active, so I am afraid that riding a motorbike to the dinosaur’s spine will not be safe,” Thinh said.

Mr. Van and Mrs. Nhung took a commemorative photo among the floating clouds in Ta Xua.

He admits that, although he has traveled many times and many places by motorbike, the “dinosaur spine” road is still a “challenge” for him and his wife. They have to cross the rocky cliffs, super narrow, without barriers, sometimes deep trenches appear due to rain erosion or some sections are full of potholes, sometimes going up, sometimes going down.

All three members also tried to calm down, take a deep breath, and gradually adapt to the difference in altitude at a place 2,865m above sea level.

Mr. Van smiled brightly when he arrived at the “back of the dinosaur”.

After struggling to move about 1.5km, they also successfully conquered the “dinosaur spine”. For Mr. Van, the joy is like bursting when standing in the middle of the vast nature, admiring the picturesque scenery. As for Mr. Thinh, Ms. Tuyet couldn’t help but be touched and happy to help her father realize his long-standing dream.

“Even though he is 80 years old, his father’s optimism, perseverance and passion for travel make him and his wife really admire and proud,” Thinh expressed.

Memorable experiences

Not only Ta Xua, Thinh is also impressed with many other destinations, seeing that each place has its own beauty, making the members go from one surprise to another such as the majestic and dreamlike Ha Giang, the wild Cao Bang. Hanoi, Hanoi is passionate,…

This is also the first time that the children of Mr. Thinh and Ms. Tuyet have experienced the different Tet atmosphere in the North.

On this trip, he also felt the cold in the North, especially Son La, overcome the blazing sun and strong wind that blew everything away in Ninh Thuan or the bustling Tet atmosphere only found in Ninh Thuan. Hai Phong, conquering the dreamlike road of Ha Long city,…

Stopping at each place, the members also have the opportunity to enjoy many famous dishes. They couldn’t help but be delighted when they tasted Thang Co for the first time, Tay’s banh xeo or Cao Bang’s banh cuon, etc.

The scenery of the mountains and forests hidden in the mist made the members excited.

This is also the first time that the children of Mr. Thinh and Ms. Tuyet have experienced the atmosphere of welcoming the New Year in many regions, however, at this time, it is quite difficult to find a place to rest and eat when the restaurants are crowded. closed to celebrate Tet.

Thinh most remembers the day he went from Meo Vac to Cao Bang, the whole way, the shops or gas stations along the road were closed. At mealtime, when they were too hungry, the whole family had to lower the kitchen and temporarily cook instant noodles. The meal was quick and simple but made all members feel warm and satisfied.

The special trip across Vietnam brings unique and unforgettable memories to the members.

After more than 10 days of traveling, Mr. Thinh’s parents stayed in the North to visit relatives and he and his sister brought their children back to Ho Chi Minh City.

“At the end of the trip, I thought it would be great if I could do this journey 10 years earlier. But that’s okay. Luckily my father-in-law is 80 years old, but his soul is still young and enthusiastic like him. I’m 20, so it’s not too late. I also want to have a life like that and hope my children can also spend this beautiful time”, he expressed.

According to Mr. Thinh’s calculations, the cost of this 14-day trip across Vietnam for the extended family is about 50 million VND, contributed by the brothers and sisters, including food, fuel, expenses, hotel, etc. tolls, etc. Before departing, he also took the car for maintenance (replacing tires, oil, some balancers and shock absorbers,…) costing about 30 million dong.

In the near future, he and his wife also plan to organize many other short trips with their small family, prioritizing the type of camping experience, playing and enjoying more
