Melon garden on the terrace 25 m2

DA NANG – Garden has only placed more than 40 pots, so Mr. Tran Hoa (42 years old, living in Thanh Khe) grows a variety of crops to choose the best melon variety.

Melon garden on the terrace 25 m2

More than a year ago, seeing a package of melon seeds at the store, Mr. Hoa bought it and tried it. In the year the tree is nursed, the tree wilts and rots, the tree that is bearing fruit dies midway, the tree that produces fruit is destroyed by birds… “The first planting failed but I was very excited, I want to learn to plant more,” said the telephone repairman.

After that period, he spent most of the terrace area, which was grown with green vegetables, growing melons.

Learning online and experienced people, the gardener invests in the preparation of the soil more thoroughly and methodically. He usually mixes the substrate at the rate of 40 -50% soil, 30% rice husk ash and coir, 20-30% mixture of goat, cow, chicken manure and sprinkled with lime powder. The soil is incubated for 15 days before planting, vermicompost is added later.

According to Mr. Hoa, the stage of soil preparation is the most difficult because you have to climb four floors of stairs and mix the soil under the hot sun of the central region.

To repel birds, he hangs plastic bags, bottles and jars of different colors so that when the wind blows, he will swing. Every day, he manually traced each leaf to catch worms. When growing fruit, the tree needs to get a lot of water and nutrients, because the gardener still watered his hands, he had to take advantage of extra watering at noon.

Most of Mr. Hoa uses self-composted organic fertilizers (oil cake, fish protein, milk banana eggs), vermicompost, goat manure, Japanese chicken manure, etc., combined with a small number of other ingredients to supplement nutrients for the plants. by each stage.

Small plants need to add more protein than other ingredients, mature trees need balanced nutrition and enough micro-nutrients, fruit trees need a large number of nutrients to feed their bodies and fruits.

The solution of eggs, bananas, and milk provide protein, calcium, and potassium, so it is very good for the fruiting period, helping the fruit to be sweet and fragrant. After the first failed attempt, the gardener was able to enjoy the self-grown melons.

Mr. Hoa grows crops to regularly enjoy fruits and chooses the best varieties for long-term planting.

From the beginning of the year to now, he has planted two main crops, one of about three varieties, about half a month apart. According to Mr. Hoa, melons love the sun, so when planted in the right season, from February to September, they will grow very well.

Each melon tree Mr. Hoa leaves only one fruit. As for the Fujisawa melon (pictured), which tree is healthy, he still keeps two fruits to take care of. Fujisawa’s body is stout, green leaves, beautiful net fruit, thick flesh, slightly sweet taste, planting time is about 80 days.

This is one of the varieties of Japanese melons with green skin and orange flesh that Hoa finds worth growing. There are also other varieties such as Honey red, Tasman; like Moulin – green skin, green flesh, floating net, long but delicious.

According to Mr. Hoa, growing melons on a dry terrace has fewer pathogens than growing soil. “For melons to grow well, they need to be watered with enough water and nutrients in each stage. Daily watering plants should pay attention to insects and fungi to detect and handle early. The stronger the tree, the percentage of plants reaching the destination and quality. the higher the result,” he said.

In the most recent batch, he planted 10 Fujisawa melon seeds on 8 plants “finished” all 8, collected 11 fruits, 3 trees gave 2 fruits. A single fruit tree weighs 1.9 – 2.2 kg, a tree for two is from 1.4 to 1.5 kg.

In addition to cantaloupe, Mr. Hoa grows yellow melons. The varieties of Hami31 and Hami04 melons (in the picture) have large fruits weighing 3-4 kg, the yellow skin is eye-catching, but compared to the Japanese melon varieties, it is not as sweet and delicious.

The father of three said that the melon garden is a place for the family to connect, so that the children can be close to nature. “When carrying each melon like a piglet to bring home to enjoy or give to friends and relatives, it feels very happy and interesting,” he said.

Compensating for the days of sunbathing to work the soil, watering the plants, when the melons are green, every morning, Mr. Hoa often takes advantage of drinking coffee in the garden, watching flowers and fruits to relax his heart. Follow vnexpress
