The vaccine-related issue will be one of the topics during phone talks between Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his Polish counterpart Mateusz Morawiecki scheduled for August 17, Ambassador to Poland Nguyen Hung said.

An initiative by the Polish-Vietnamese Parliamentary Group and the Poland-Vietnam Friendship Association, with the support from Polish Ambassador to Vietnam Wojciech Gerwel and Vietnamese Ambassador to Poland Nguyen Hung, proposed the transfer of COVID-19 vaccines from Poland's leftover vaccines to Vietnam.

Last year Vietnam was considered to have well contained outbreaks caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. However, the Delta variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus has spread very quickly compared to other strains that have caused the outbreak of the disease in recent times across the nation.

In the face of the situation, the Poland-Vietnam parliamentary group and the Poland-Vietnam Friendship Association, supported by the Polish Ambassador to Vietnam, Wojciech Gerwel and the Vietnamese Ambassador to Poland Nguyen Hung, gave the idea of COVID-19 vaccine delivery among Poland's leftover vaccines, according to the VOV.

In addition, the Polish Embassy in Vietnam will receive about 1,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses to be administered for Polish employees residing in Vietnam.

During the working session of Minister Dworczyk and Ambassador Nguyen Hung, together with a group of Polish-Vietnamese parliamentarians and representatives from the Poland-Vietnam Friendship Association, participants expressed their gratitude to the Polish Government for their support and the prompt realization of the vaccine initiative.

Representatives of the parties expressed their hope that Poland would donate more COVID-19 vaccines to Vietnams as its support for the Southeast Asian nation in the fight against the pandemic. It is expected that there will be agreements for the delivery of the next batches of the remaining Polish vaccines in the time ahead.

According to Polish newswire trybuna.info, Vietnam has maintained time-honoured cooperative relations with the central European nation for more than seven decades, and is now regarded as a strategic partner of Poland in Southeast Asia and in the ASEAN community.

There are tens of thousands of Vietnamese nationals living in Poland, as well as there are hundreds of Polish expats living in Vietnam.

There are many Vietnamese students pursuing their study at Polish universities and more and more young Polish people have decided to study at Vietnamese universities. The two countries and two peoples have been bound together by family ties and friendship for years, reported the VNA.

During a working session of Dworczyk, Hung and representatives of the Polish-Vietnamese Parliamentary Group and the Friendship Association, participants voiced a hope that Poland will further assist Vietnam in the COVID-19 fight and more agreements will be reached to send other batches of Poland's remaining vaccines to Vietnam.

Vietnam is a strategic partner of Poland in Southeast Asia. Dozens of thousands of overseas Vietnamese are living in Poland and hundreds of Polish are in Vietnam.
