Meanwhile, HCMC is the country’s biggest Covid-19 hotspot with 48,863 cases reported in the latest outbreak to date.

The HCMC Center for Disease Control warned that the number of new Covid-19 infections would continue to rise in the coming days as the ongoing Covid-19 outbreak in the city has yet to reach its peak.

Phan Van Mai, deputy standing secretary of the HCMC Party Committee, said the city has prepared several scenarios, including extending the citywide social distancing period.

Up to now, 13,421 Covid-19 patients in the country have fully recovered. Meanwhile, 148 patients are currently in critical condition.

To enhance the treatment capacity for Covid-19 patients with serious symptoms or in critical condition, the Ministry of Health has planned to set up nearly 30 new regional intensive care units.

Besides, five national intensive care units will be located at Bach Mai Hospital, the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases, Hue Central Hospital, Cho Ray Hospital and HCMC Oncology Hospital No.2.

The ministry also asked cities and provinces to quickly set up new Covid-19 treatment facilities for patients with mild symptoms and asymptomatic Covid-19 cases.
