The Department of Preventive Medicine under the Ministry of Health yesterday said that since the beginning of the year, 82 kids with pertussis had been reported mostly from the northern provinces of Cao Bang, Hanoi, Hai Duong, Phu Tho, Ha Nam and the central province of Nghe An.

Amongst localities, Hanoi has 21 cases with one death. Meantime, the National Children Hospital showed an upward trend of the disease in children. During three months lately, the hospital recorded 55 infection cases while it was 12 cases in the same period last year and it was 10 cases in 2015.

The Department also said that the cold weather in the North is conducive to the disease outbreaks. Worse, many of them had not been vaccinated.

FDI at over $14 billion in eight months

As at August 20 there were 1,619 new FDI projects in Vietnam with total investment of $9.79 billion, up 24.3 per cent year-on-year in capital, according to the Foreign Investment Agency (FIA).
