It was just dawn, many boats in the fishing village of Long Thuy arrived one after another, and fishermen were busy bringing fresh fish and shrimp to the mainland after a night floating at sea for a living.

Long Thuy is a small fishing village located about 10km south of Tuy Hoa city (Phu Yen).

People here mainly live by fishing for shrimp in the sea.

The new sun “rises”, large and small boats in Long Thuy follow each other to shore.

Most of these boats are fishing near the shore. Most boats set sail from 5pm the previous day, some fishermen choose to set sail at 3am.

The method and time of catching are different, but at around 5:30 a.m., fishermen are busy bringing fresh fish and shrimp to the mainland after many hours of living at sea.

Reaching out to sea at 3am, Mr. Dien and his wife (in Long Thuy) only brought back more than 5kg of sea perch, along with a few barracuda. 

“My boat is small, so my wife and I only go fishing about 5km from the shore. In the night, we gain more than ten pounds, lose less or return empty-handed. Today, we only brought back 5kg of fish and sold it. 200,000 VND, enough to buy rice and fish sauce to feed the family’s mouth,” said Mr. Dien happily.

Fortunately, Mr. Nguyen Van Minh’s boat hit the stream of anchovies, earning 20kg.

“The anchovy is fresh and delicious, so buyers like it, so the price is 100,000 VND/kg. Last night, my boat with 3 workers earned more than 2 million VND, after deducting the cost, each person was divided by 600,000 VND. “- Mr. Minh shared.($1=24,000 VND)

Traders are waiting on the beach to buy fresh fish from the boats of Long Thuy people and bring them to the street to sell for a profit.

“Every day at 5 am, I am here to start buying from fishermen. They also have a place to consume, and I drive to the city to earn more profit. Due to fishing near the shore, the fish is in Long Thuy is very fresh, buyers love it,” said Oanh, a fish collector.

After selling fish, some people quickly bring fishing gear home to dry, others untangle the nets to prepare for the new sea.
