Pre-season dragon fruit has recorded the highest price



After the first rains of the season, dragon fruit gardens in Tien Giang province are lush. In Particular, the price of dragon fruit is currently at the highest level in recent years.



Currently, gardeners in Tien Giang province sell red dragon fruit (type 1) for nearly 40,000 VND/kg, type 2 and 3 for 30,000 - 33,000 VND/kg. This is the highest price in recent years.With this price, each kg of dragon fruit, profit from 15,000 - 20,000 VND. However, only 10-15% of gardens have fruit for harvest. According to gardeners, about a month later, the dragon fruit will enter the full harvest season.Tien Giang province has an area of commercial dragon fruit trees of nearly 10,000 hectares. Since before the Lunar New Year, due to the strong consumption of the Chinese market, the output of this fruit is very easy with the high price which helps the gardener have a good source of income.Tien Giang farmers are actively taking care of and renovating the old dragon fruit garden, applying clean production models to improve the value of the fruit.Tien Giang province has an area of commercial dragon fruit trees of nearly 10,000 hectares. Since before the Lunar New Year until now, due to the strong consumption of the Chinese market, the output of this fruit is very easy, the price is high, and the gardener has a good source of income.


Tien Giang farmers are enthusiastically taking care of and renovating the old dragon fruit garden, applying clean production models to improve the quality of the fruit.Currently, Vietnamese dragon fruit has been exported to more than 15 countries and territories. Besides traditional markets such as China, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnamese dragon fruit also qualified for difficult markets such as the US, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, and Australia.


Previously, Vietnam's dragon fruit used to hold a unique position in the international market when accounting for 80-90% of transactions. However, according to statistics from 2019 of the General Department of Customs, Vietnam's dragon fruit export turnover has continuously decreased sharply. Particularly, in 2021 and 2022, dragon fruit has fallen out of the top billion-dollar export items of Vietnam. In 2022, the export turnover of this item reached just over 632 million USD, down nearly 39% compared to 2021 and over 49% compared to the peak of 2019.

In the first two months of this year, export activities were more favorable, but statistics from the Import and Export Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade showed that dragon fruit exports reached nearly $106 million, down 26.9% over the same period in 2022.
