An Giang province urged to mull exporting high-quality food

The prime minister made the request while working with the provincial leadership on March 14, noting that An Giang must become a breeding centre for rice, fish and pigs for the Mekong Delta.

He also suggested that the province call for investment from the private sector in infrastructure development and other projects while also backing its plans to open high-tech agricultural zones.

But he noted that the province should consider how its products might be sold in order to outline a suitable production structure and size.

PM Phuc also agreed in principle to a pig breeding centre jointly funded by Denmark and assigned the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and relevant agencies to work on the project.

Regarding solar farm development, the government leader asked An Giang to calculate the appropriate area in order not to affect the environment and agriculture.

An Giang is one of the four provinces in the Mekong Delta Key Economic Zone with potential in agriculture and tourism.

However, its agriculture has faced many difficulties of late due to climate change and unpredictable weather patterns.

The province is making an effort to restructure its agriculture sector by focusing on three major products, namely fisheries, rice and livestock farming, particularly of cows and pigs.

The same day, PM Phuc visited the Dinh Thanh Agricultural Research Centre of Loc Troi Corporation in Thoai Son District.

According to the Loc Troi leadership, the company has especially concentrated on applying science and technology to production and always accompanying farmers for a sustainable agriculture.

Loc Troi has sent young agricultural engineers to work with farmers and transfer advanced farming techniques and good practices to produce clean and healthy agricultural products.

Prime Minister Phuc praised Loc Troi’s agricultural production model and stated that the application of science and technology in agriculture is necessary to help Vietnam cope with climate change and ensure food security.

He also underlined the important role of agricultural enterprises, especially private ones, in building new-style rural areas and developing the agricultural sector.
